Though De Rosa doesn't specify which particular frame it's using as a basepoint, it claims the Protos Road Bike Frameset's stiffness-to-weight ratio is a full 35% better than traditional competition racing bikes
We admit that we don't have the equipment or technical know-how to properly vet this claim, which is part of the reason we eschewed the technology of testing and metrics in favor of the traditional method of determining a given frameset's qualities: we rode it
As you might expect given its down tube, we believe that the Protos may be the stiffest road racing bike that we've ever rolled through our doors, first in class when it comes to power transfer efficiency
Taking a quick glance through the other bikes we carry should give the reader a sense of the enormity of that statement, which is itself almost as impressive a claim as the Protos' oversized down tube is large
Almost
That titanic down tube is most notable when a crankset is mounted (the crank arms look like tiny toys next to it) and when the pedals are mashed in anger
The Protos reacts like we've always wished the Close Door buttons on elevators would
it's responsive to the point of personal injury, jumping from the speed of noodle to full-on sprint as soon as the freehub engages
There's no hesitation or wind up -- it just goes
On long, steady climbs, the huge down tube feels like it's pulling the cranks through the pedaling dead spot for you, keeping the pressure on with what may be the least amount of watts lost to bottom bracket flex that we've ever felt
Even under riders in the 176lb/80kg range, the frame is virtually impervious to flex
That aggressive efficiency is mirrored in the Protos' geometry, which is low and predatory -- perfect for diving through corners on the inside line
The head tube alone measures between 20 and 30mm shorter than on models that we'd typically considered slammed for crits or fast circuit races, definitely bucking the current industry trend toward end...

The Defy is an award winning endurance geometry featuring an lower weight, superior stiffness, compliance and control
For 2016, Giant designed the Defy to run disc brakes
At a glance, you'll notice Giant designed the Defy with less holes in the carbon fiber
Engineers purposefully did so to shave off grams
The D-fuse rounded integrated seat tube is taken from the TCX design and offers a streamlined and compliant design
Super thin seat stays are 1.3mm and untraditionally sit lower on the frame for compliance
For additional compliance, the top tube is also shaped to be flat up top but rounded out towards the seat post and head tube
The Defy went through rigorous tests gleaning stiffness data to ensure the Defy offers an improved ride quality
With much research being put into an optimal frame design, Giant paired the Defy with Shimano 105 11 speed groupset
The TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes offer a superior braking experience
The Shimano RS500 crankset is compact and paired with a Shimano 105 11-28 cassette

Fuji Transonic 2.8 Road Bike- 2015 - Performance Exclusive

Fuji Transonic 2.8 Road Bike- 2015 - Performance Exclusive
Fuji Transonic 2.8 Road Bike- 2015 - Performance Exclusive
At Performance, we're always looking to create a great bike that should exist, but doesn't
In the case of the Fuji Transonic 2.8 Limited Edition road bike, we went to Fuji and asked for their incredible Transonic frame and FC-440 full carbon fork, but with a Shimano 105 11-speed spin
We couldn't be more pleased with what ended up online and in our stores
an aerodynamic carbon road bike with cutting-edge technology and terrific value
Designed to conquer Europe's toughest climbs and equipped with today's most elite technology, the Fuji Transonic 2.8 road bike is meant handle whatever you throw at it
The Transonic 2.8 features a Shimano 105 11-speed mechanical drivetrain, Vera Corsa DPM 27 aero clincher wheels and Fuji's patented, highly lauded C5 high modulus carbon frame and FC-440 fork
All of these luxuries translate into the ultimate long distance ride in supreme comfort
About the Frame: The Fuji Transonic frame has been design to help you cut through the wind
Fuji's engineers spent several years wind-tunnel testing and FEA-modeling the Transonic frame to achieve the right shape to help you gain an advantage on your competitors
They found that while aerofoil shapes may be aerodynamically efficient, they compromise the rigidity of the frame
They also don't perform as well in a cross-wind, and can compromise your control of the bike
To solve this problem, Fuji uses a wide cross-section tube shape made from C5 high modulus carbon fiber that cuts through the wind but increases stiffness, and increases your control of the bike at speed
They also borrowed some of the most successful wind-cheating elements of their hyper-fast Track Elite and Norcom Straight TT models
An aerodynamically contoured head tube-fork-downtube junction blends the frame areas together to ensure smooth, uninterrupted airflow over the front of the bike and across the downtube
The seat tube-seatstay junction is sculpted to reduce turbulent air exiting the seat tube -- in the Transonic's case, contoured around the rear brake to shield it from the wind
The seat tube is also contoured around the rear wheel to minimize drag
About the Components: The Shimano 105 11-speed drivetrain on the 2.8 delivers exceptional performance without breaking the bank
That's because 105 got a serious dose of trickle down technology from its Dura-Ace and Ultegra big brothers
105 delivers unmatched rider ergonomics and performance, thanks to powerful, intuitive index shifting that lets you downshift by one or two cogs with each shift in the rear, and powerful, front derailleur movement that makes going from the little to big ring a cinch
Combine that with SIS rear derailleur technology for the ultimate in precision and unmatched reliability, and you've got one of the best, most affordable high performance shift systems on the market
The Transonic 2.8 also features a mid-compact 52/36 Oval crankset and wide-ranged Shimano 105
